YOUR FUTURE, OUR FOCUS
A woman's relationship with money is driven by her personal life experiences. We're so busy looking after our business, family and friends, we often neglect to look after our own financial future.

Will you have enough super? Are you financially independent? Parents moving into aged care? There are so many questions, options and regulations it can seem overwhelming.

Ursula Boorman is a long-time HBWN member. As principal for Direct Advisers she is passionate about educating and empowering women in business to help them achieve their financial and lifestyle goals.

As a Certified Financial Planner, Ursula can help you improve your quality of life, plan for retirement, protect your wealth and your family's future, and build strong financial foundations.

Direct Advisers is an independently owned financial planning practice, founded in Port Macquarie in 1986. They are experts in retirement strategies, superannuation and SMSF, investment portfolio management, and personal insurance for business people.

The best time to plan for your future is today. Call 6583 7588.

What is an Event Poppy?

Ever felt like a shag on a rock at a networking event? It's not a great feeling but we've all been there.

The Event Poppy initiative has been introduced at all HBWN events to avoid this situation and promote inclusiveness for all of our members. New members and guests are introduced to our Event Poppies as a friendly transition to meeting and networking with other members, without the awkwardness!
You can identify our Event Poppies by their pink lanyards and a welcoming smile.

Interested in being an Event Poppy?
We encourage members and guests to tick the Event Poppy box when registering for your next event

It is a fabulous way to meet new people and help others feel welcome to the network.

Hello Friend,

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2016. The year has started with great promise for many businesses in the region, giving us plenty of confidence and motivation for a prosperous 2016. See our Member Brag below for an update on members who have started the year with distinction.

As promised in our last newsletter, the 2016 HBWN Committee have been enthusiastically preparing for a busy year of empowering, encouraging and educating businesswomen in the Hastings region. Our Calendar of Events for the first half of 2016, launched with much enthusiasm in January.

Member Survey
In our member survey, completed at the end of last year, most members nominated the reason for joining the network was:

  • To be part of the local business community.
  • To receive support from like-minded businesswomen.

While our members are overwhelmingly satisfied with what the network has to offer, time for events is in short supply. Members want to maximise contact with the network by having more opportunity to self promote and network at events. The primary aim of the Committee in the coming year will be to deliver on these desires.

Hastings Heroines International Women's Day
An important event every March is International Women's Day. This year the global theme is "Pledge for Parity" which challenges us all to look for ways to keep boosting the focus on equality. The HBWN, in partnership with Leslie Williams MP, has presented the Hastings Heroines in conjunction with International Women's Day for the past four years. This year these important awards will be held as a   breakfast on Tuesday 8th March. At the breakfast, we will announce the 2016 Hastings Heroines finalists and formally acknowledge their contribution to our local community in pursuing parity for women.

Please join us while we recognise these deserving ladies and raise funds for Port Macquarie Hastings Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Service. Buy your Raffle tickets from Snap Port Macquarie or on the website. All genders and ages are welcome to attend and declare their pledge for parity.

I look forward to catching up with you all at the event.

Kind regards
Karen Archer

Christmas Party - Tall Poppy Inductees

During our Christmas party, Robyn Flanagan, proprietor of Wauchope Travel, and Loris Hendy, solicitor with Priest Legal, received the respected "Tall Poppy" award.

Robyn Flanagan was the first recognised financial member of the network upon inception 16 years ago and has been a member consistently throughout that period. She has volunteered many hours and supported other up-and-coming business women as a mentor. Most recently, Robyn was a mentor in the 2015 HBWN Mentoring Program.

Loris Hendy served on the HBWN committee for over five years. She has been an enormous advocate for the Network and provided a high level of support over many years.

The Tall Poppy award is a great honour for local women who have made a significant contribution to the HBWN and its members. These women are the reason HBWN is a highly respected organisation for women in the Hasting's area.

Tall Poppy's are invaluable to HBWN as they support the committee and members to assure future success. We are deeply grateful for their passion and dedication.

Hastings Education Fund

The HBWN supports the Hastings Education Fund (HEF) as a gold sponsor with an annual contribution. The money HEF receives from local organisations like ours helps students further their education.

HEF grants are based on financial need helping over 220 students continue their tertiary education. The money provides opportunities which these future leaders would otherwise not have access to.

Together, the Hastings business community has raised $100,000 for HEF since 2011.
